Filipino boxer Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista knocked out Mexican Genaro Garcia in 2 rounds and successfully defended his International Boxing Federation (IBF) International featherweight title during the main event of Pinoy Pride XII on Saturday, at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City.

But Boom Boom seems to have fought the wrong opponent. ALA Boxing Promotions, the promoter for the event, discovered that their Mexican agent sent the wrong Garcia to the Philippines. Instead of sending professional boxer Genaro “Poblanito” García, who has 38 wins and 8 losses (with 22 knockouts), the Mexican agent sent Genaro “Panterita” Garcia who has a poor record of 10 wins and 11 losses.
More than 30,000 fans filled up the sports complex to witness how the Pinoy pride will knock out Garcia who was advertised and billed as a tough test for Bautista. But what they saw was a Mexican who was obviously scared and couldn’t punch.
ALA Promotions has decided to turn Pinoy Pride XII as free public event due to this mix-up, and offered refunds for tickets during the event.
Pinoy Pride XII will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday, starting at 10:30 AM.
