Facebook Messenger for Windows 7

Recently! Facebook revealed their instant messenger application version for desktop computer with a running Windows 7 operating system.

Users get notifications when friends want to chat. Friend activity is also shown; however, clicking on these items will take you to a web browser. The same goes for messages in your Facebook inbox.”

But it was said that the application is only a chat client and expect many of Facebook’s features will be  disabled upon using it. Another disappointing fact about this app is that it does not support video or voice calling.

You can accept pending friend requests but if you want to search for new friends or check profiles you’ll need to go to Facebook.com. Facebook says the chat bar is a trial application so expect updates and changes (it is Facebook, after all).”

Facebook Messenger has been available as a mobile app for some time but this is the first (official) release for a Windows desktop, you can get here through a direct download.

DOH: New Year Firecracker Accidents

At least 207 people had been injured by powerful firecrackers and celebratory gunfire across the country as of Saturday morning despite a government scare campaign against reckless revelry to welcome the new year, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.

The DOH said this was 16 percent lower compared to the number of cases reported last year. No deaths had been reported so far.

“This (number) is 38 cases (16 percent) lower than the same period last year and eight cases (4 percent) lower than the previous five-year average (2006-2010),” the DOH said.

Health Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag said most of those hurt were children. Stray bullets wounded eight people and 197 were injured by powerful firecrackers on December 21-30.

But the authorities feared the number of injuries would rise as Filipinos bid goodbye to a year of natural disasters and economic uncertainty.

The DOH said 122 cases (59 percent) were recorded in the National Capital Region. Those injured by firecrackers were aged 1 to 87 years and a majority of them were male.

More than half (54 percent) of those injured were between the ages of 1 and 10. Eighty-four percent were male and 62 percent had directly handled firecrackers, the DOH said.

It said 151 cases (77 percent) resulted in blasts or burns without amputation, 14 (7 percent) resulted in blasts or burns with amputation, and 31 (16 percent) got their eyes injured.

Of those injured, 18 or 34 percent were at least 15 years and were under the influence of alcohol, 142 or 72 percent used illegal fireworks, and 110 or 77 percent used the piccolo, the DOH said.

“The most common legal firecracker used is luces (21 percent). One hundred forty-four (73 percent) of the injuries occurred in the street,” it added.

To avoid fires during the New Year’s Day celebrations, fire officials issued last-minute warnings to the public.

Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna, director of the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region, reminded Metro Manila revelers not to light candles in their homes and leave these unattended, and to unplug appliances if leaving the house.

Laguna also appealed to the public to call the hotline number 117 in case of fire or any other emergency.

The BFP-NCR on Saturday led a motorcade of fire trucks around Metro Manila as part of its campaign against illegal firecrackers and other fire hazards.

Fire trucks from the BFP and volunteer fire brigades converged on the Quirino Grandstand in Manila for a short program before roaming the city streets to warn the public against using illegal firecrackers and other possible causes of fire.

NBI Manhunt Continues Against Jovito Palparan

Fugitive ex-major general Jovito Palparan Jr. avoided capture by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) early Friday morning after NBI agents failed to find him at his house, authorities said.

NBI agents armed with a warrant went to Palparan's house in Lakeview, Bagong Ilog, Pasig City to arrest him. The NBI agents had to knock for several minutes at the door of the house, which is protected by high walls. The former general's wife, Dr. Vangie Palparan, later opened the door and allowed authorities inside.

NBI agents searched the 3-storey house but did not find Palparan. Palparan's wife claimed that she last saw him December 27 and that he has not gone home since.

Malacañang, meanwhile, shrugged off a statement made by the Association of General and Flag Officers Inc. that criticized the alleged "trial by publicity" against Palparan.

"Naiintindihan… of course, magkakaroon po tayo ng mga sektor who are entitled to their own views and their own opinions," said deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte.

She said the Palace has never called Palparan "berdugo" (executioner).

"Wala akong naaalalang mayroon po sa amin in particular here in the Palace… that referred to General Palparan as such. Ang bottom line nito, nabibigyan po siya ng pagkakataon na ipagtanggol po ang sarili nya doon sa tamang venue," Valte said.

The NBI manhunt continues against Palparan, who is facing kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges for the abduction of University of the Philippines students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño in 2006.

Ram Revilla and Janelle Manahan Video Scandal

Is it true that Ram Revilla and Janelle Manahan has a Video Scandal?

There are rumors that Ram Revilla and Janelle Manahan Scandal Video goes Viral on the Web! Late actor Ram Revilla and his girlfriend Janelle Manahan has a video scandal that was uploaded in social networking sites particularly in Facebook but recently removed due to policy violation, however, copies of it have made their way in other sites that's getting a lot of attention amongst netizens and some are looking where to Download it.

The video shows Ram Revilla and Janelle Manahan without their clothes and doing a very intimate act inside a bathroom. Ram is holding a digital camera while Janelle is letting her boyfriend record their deeds. The said video lasted for 1 minute and 37 seconds.

The big question here is, who uploaded it on the internet?  There are speculations from different people that the said scandal video of the late Ramgen Revilla and Janelle Manahan are uploaded by the family of Ramgen. Some said that they will use the video scandal against Janelle Manahan. There are also speculations that the video scandal was from Ramgen's laptop.

Meanwhile, Manahan's Legal Counsel Atty. Guevarra is aiming  to know the purpose of circulating the videos on the internet. He suspected that the person who is involved wanted to discredit his client. Guevarra was quoted as saying that “What we want to know is the purpose of circulating this video.” Guevarra stated.

He adds further that “Why stoop to this level of blackening the memory of your dead brother just to get even at Janelle for speaking about facts surrounding the crime?” Manahan’s counsel stated.

The murder case of Ram Revilla is still on-going and Janelle Manahan is still recuperating from the wounds that she suffered. She’s being protected by authorities and stayed in an undisclosed location for her safety.

The video that was posted on the internet and was blogged about by different sources was “another attempt at murdering her, this time through character assassination,” according to the legal counsel of Manahan headed by Argee Guevarra.

The lawyer also called the attention of Ram’s brother Senator Bong Revilla to help prosecute the perpetrators of the crime. The senator is the author of the country’s antivoyeurism law.

Republic Act 9995 which is known as the  antivoyeurism law prohibits the distribution of videos without the consent of its owners. Guevarra admitted that due to the time that Janelle had spent with the Revillas the probabilities of more videos to surface is inevitable.

List of Banned Firecrackers

Some manufacturers of unlicensed firecrackers have come up with new and rebranded products, most of these are named after prominent personalities in politics, entertainment and sports, from boxing champ Manny Pacquiao to former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Here are some of today's in-demand illegal firecrackers:

Pacquiao - named after Manny Pacquiao. It comes in the form of thick, black phosphorus sticks and is reportedly bigger and more powerful than the piccolo, another type of firecracker.

Goodbye Gloria - named after Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Its packaging is emblazoned with the former President's face, and is said to be able to shut off street lamps and shatter glass windows.

Ampatuan - named after the Ampatuan clan, whose members have been accused of being behind the country's worst election-related violence, the Maguindanao massacre. It is described as more powerful than pla-pla, a triangle-shaped firecracker.

Trillanes - named after Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. It is a 16-inch long cylindrical explosive.
Bin Laden - named after the late Osama bin Laden, leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda. It is described as a powerful baby dynamite.

Goodbye Philippines - a giant triangular firecracker which can reportedly shatter a wall.

Goodbye Earth - a triangular firecracker that is triple the size of an ordinary five-star.

Goodbye Universe - a firecracker as large as a bucket of chicken sold in fast food chains.

These firecrackers are considered illegal in the country today because these may endanger a person's life, as stated in Republic Act No. 7183.

Other banned firecrackers, according to the Department of Health and the Department of Trade and Industry, include the popular watusi, piccolo, Super Lolo, Lolo Thunder and Big Judah's Belt.

Meanwhile, here are the types of firecrackers that may be manufactured, sold and used in the country, according to RA 7183:

Baby rocket - a firecracker with a stick that gets propelled a few meters before exploding.
Bawang - a large firecracker wrapped in the shape of a garlic
Small triangulo - a triangle-shaped firecracker
Pulling of strings - consists of small tube with strings on each end. Pulling both strings will cause the firecracker to explode.
Paper caps - minute amount of black powder spread in small strips of paper, and is used for children's toy guns.
El diablo - a tube-shaped firecracker with a wick.
Judah's Belt - a string of firecrackers, which contain up to 100 El diablos or small triangulos.
Sky rocket or kwitis - a large version of the baby rocket

Actor Tyron Perez found dead

StarStruck alumnus Tyron (not Tyrone) Perez was reportedly found dead inside an abandoned car (Plate Number ZSP-875) in Valenzuela City.

He was 26 years old. Initial reports suggested that he committed suicide. He signed up with Star Magic in 2010 and he was set to star in an ABS-CBN teleserye in 2012.

Tyrone is married to a certain flight attendant who is currently in the country for a vacation, according to reports. But despite being with his wife, there are reports saying that Tyrone was always seen lately in the vicinity of Brgy. Ugong, Valenzuela, at the back of a friend’s house. This is why aside from suicide, foul play is also being looked into as a possible cause of the young actor’s death.

There are also reports saying that Perez has a gun shot wound but there’s no confirmation from the police regarding this matter as of yet.

26-year-old Tyron Perez was best known for being one of the finalists of the first season of GMA-7′s reality based artista search “StarStruck.” He is now the second StarStruck alumnus who died in the month of December after Marky Cielo.

Six months after his manager’s death (Douglas Quijano), Tyron transferred to ABS-CBN.

He appeared in the now defunct ABS-CBN drama series “Momay,” “Imortal” and “Mula sa Puso.”

Perez’ last TV appearance was the December 3 episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” where he played the love interest of Ejay Falcon’s character.

Star Magic, which co-manages Tyron with director Jerry Lopez-Sineneng, said in a statement: "Our deepest condolences to the family of Tyron. Let's pray for the eternal repose of his soul."

Studio 23 to air NBA 2011-2012 Season

The wait is finally over for Filipino fans of the National Basketball Association (NBA) as the NBA returns to Studio 23 with a back-to-back treat on Monday (Dec 26) for the league’s 2011-2012 season.

The face-off between last season’s championship contenders, the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks, will be telecast via satellite at 8 a.m., with a same day primetime airing at 7 p.m.

Dallas, which reigned over Miami and won last year’s championship, has found further reinforcement in the players who recently joined the team. Lamar Odom joins the fold this season after leaving the Lakers, his team for seven years. NBA superstar Vince Carter has also joined the Mavericks to reunite with former New Jersey Nets partner Jason Kidd. Miami, meanwhile, has kept its power trio – LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh – intact.

As an appetizer to the championship match-up, the battle between the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers will air live at 6 a.m., with a same day primetime telecast at 9:30 p.m. The Lakers are currently grappling with significant changes in their team after losing renowned coach Phil Jackson last season and veteran forward Lamar Odom in the off-season. The Bulls, meanwhile, has kept in its roster its Chicago-native star player Derrick Rose.

Next Saturday (Dec 31), the game will be between the Bulls and the Los Angeles Clippers, which will air on Studio 23 live at 11:30 a.m. On New Year’s Day (Jan 1), the Philadelphia 76ers will face the Golden State Warriors on live at 10:00 a.m. The following day, January 2, the Lakers will return to play the Denver Nuggets live at 9:00 a.m.

All games will have same day primetime airings at 9:30 pm on Studio 23. Watch NBA 2011-2012 Season Live Telecast on Studio 23.

2013 Election

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the 2013 mid-term elections in the country would be automated, but said it would go back to the manual system if the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) polls push through this year.

To prepare for the 2013 and the 2016 elections, the Comelec has been holding strategic planning among key officials during weekends to identify the strong and weak aspects of the poll body.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes said the computerization of the Comelec’s system was among moves eyed as possible strategy to ensure transparency and speed up operations in the agency.

But with the Comelec abandoning its plan to automate the ARMM polls, Smartmatic International Corp. is seeking payment for its “consultancy services.”

Commission on Elections (Comelec) poll body might use a new technology to make the 2013 computerized elections better than last year’s.

Comelec Commissioner Lucenito Tagle said they are initiating the preparations for the next national and local elections using the automated election system (AES) again. But Tagle, who was appointed head of the Comelec steering committee for the 2013 polls, said they might employ a new technology.

“This doesn’t mean that Smartmatic will be barred from joining. They can still be our service provider in 2013 if they can win our public bidding,” Tagle said.

Smartmatic provided the Comelec with the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines used in the 2010 polls. Critics of the technology, however, continue to question the integrity of such a technology.

Tagle said the Comelec is already in the process of completing the membership of the committee that would prepare for the next nationals and local elections.

Philippines 2013 Election

The Legislative elections and local elections will be held on May 13, 2013. The duly elected legislators of the 2013 elections will join the elected senators of the 2010 elections and will comprise the 16th Congress of the Philippines. The elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will also be held.

This is to elect 12 of the 24 seats in the Senate. Together with those elected in 2010, they will comprise the 16th Congress. The senators elected in 2010 will serve until June 30, 2016, while the senators elected in this election will serve up to June 30, 2019.

The elections to the House of Representatives as well as local elections will occur on the same date. The Philippines uses plurality-at-large voting for seats in the Senate: the twelve candidates with the highest amount of votes wins the twelve seats up for election.

The Senate seat vacated by President Benigno Aquino III in 2010 will be among the twelve seats to be put for election.

Stay tuned for the 2013 Election Latest News Update and Result.

2012 is Year of the Yang Water Dragon

What kind of year will 2012 be? Many expect 2012 to bring about the end of the world, perhaps because they mistakenly think of Mayan or Hindu cosmologies as linear rather than cyclical. From a Feng Shui standpoint 2012, the year of the Yang Water Dragon, brings many possibilities for good fortune.

Most people know that water covers 2/3 of our planet & comprises 95% of our bodies; we simply cannot live without it. In Chinese element theory, water produces wood, which signifies growth and is the natural element of the dragon. The dragon governs east/southeast, wealth accumulation & the hours of 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. Associated with thunder, lightning and arousal, the Water Dragon personifies creativity at its best.

Water Dragons occur every 60 years, so we have had Yang Water Dragons in 1952, 1892, 1832, 1772, 1712, 1652, 1592, etc. Too, the future holds more Water Dragons in the years beyond 2012, in 2072, 2132, 2192, 2252, etc.

In 2012 the Yang Water Dragon Year starts January 23, 2012 and ends February 9, 2013. The energetic high point of the year is the dragon moon, which is from May 20 to June 18 (new moon is May 20, full moon is June 4 and dragon moon is over June 18. June 19 begins the snake moon, which will set up the energy for the following year, 2013, year of the yin water snake.)

Embrace the upcoming 2012 Year of the Water Dragon! Also makes great gifts for people who are Water Dragons (born either between 1/27/1952 – 2/23/1953 OR between 1/23/2012 – 2/9/2013.) There’s even something for the Water Dragon babies of 2012/2013.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather November 2012

Top Rank head Bob Arum remains upbeat that Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather will eventually happen. The date: November 2012.

Even though Mayweather is embroiled in legal troubles following his sentencing to 90 days in jail for domestic violence, the Hall of Fame promoter said that the two are going to slug it out in 2012.

Now that Mayweather will be out of commission for the first half of 2012, Pacquiao will likely fight sometime “in the spring” against an opponent to be named in January.

Arum will meet up with Pacquiao when the Filipino spends the new year in Las Vegas.

“I would like to see him fight in the spring,” said the 80-year-old Arum, who has been promoting Pacquiao for the last six years.

Probable opponents are Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley and Miguel Cotto.

Marquez and Bradley are the favorites to land the lucrative Pacquiao payday.

Arum said that had it not been for the conviction, Mayweather and Pacquiao would have reached an agreement.

Pacquiao has given in to two of Mayweather’s major demands: Olympic-style drug testing and a smaller revenue share.

Arum said that in the event Pacquiao and Mayweather get it on, the fight will probably end up being held in a sprawling space near the end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Arum said the 45,000-capacity arena that will be built can also be leased for concerts and other big events.

Corona to Senate: Dismiss Impeachment Complaint

Chief Justice Renato Corona on Monday said the Senate should dismiss the articles of impeachment filed against him by the House of Representatives, claiming that the move to unseat him was the “handiwork” of President Benigno Aquino III and the ruling Liberal Party.

In a 79-page reply to the House’s charges, Corona reiterated some of his remarks in an earlier combative speech before his supporters at the Supreme Court compound, wherein he described his impeachment as “unconstitutional,” done in “blitzkrieg fashion,” and “a bold, albeit ill-advised, attempt by the executive branch … to mold an obedient Supreme Court.”

The Chief Justice accused the President of leading the Liberal Party in coalescing with other House allies to oust him as the head of the Supreme Court in an “intemperate demonstration of political might.”

“[M]any circumstances and events dating back to the election of President Aquino support the conclusion that it was he … who instigated and ordered the filing of impeachment charges to remove [me],” Corona said in his reply prepared by his defense team led by retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas.

Corona lawyer Dexter Corpus arrived at the Recto conference room of the Senate at 3:25 p.m. Monday to deliver one original and 32 photocopies of the Chief Justice’s reply to the articles of impeachment.

Arnel Jose Bañas, the Senate deputy secretary for finance and administration, received the copies.

Valentina Cruz, the spokesperson of the impeachment court, was present when Corpus arrived and announced to reporters that a copy of Corona’s reply would be served to the House this morning.

She said the House prosecutors would be given five days to respond.

“Supposedly, the House has to reply by January 1 (New Year’s Day and a Sunday), but that day being a holiday, they have until January 2 to file a reply,” she said.

Cruz also said the Senate had originally planned to serve Corona’s reply to the House on Monday. But this could not be possible because Corpus arrived one-and-a-half hours before offices closed at 5 p.m., she said.

‘In on the plan’

The Chief Justice said a close evaluation of “the prevailing political climate” would back “the contention that the filing of the articles of impeachment was the handiwork of the Liberal Party alone.”

“Without much effort, one reaches the inevitable conclusion that [the President], as the head of the Liberal Party, must have been ‘in’ on the plan from inception. In contrast, it is unlikely that President Aquino knew nothing of the plans to impeach the Chief Justice,” he said, adding:

“Ensuring political advantage would amply justify the allegation that President Aquino seeks to subjugate the Supreme Court.”

Corona said the impeachment complaint should be junked immediately because it was “insufficient in substance and form” and short of the requirements of the Constitution.

“The [Senate sitting as the] impeachment court may not proceed to trial on the basis of this complaint because it is constitutionally infirm and defective for failure to comply with the requirement of verification,” he said.

Corona pointed out that in “public admissions by members of the House” who had signed the complaint, they were not able to read—or “verify”—it.

“They also declared that the majority of signatories signed without reading the complaint, but reputably in exchange for material considerations,” he said.

He cited Section 4, Rule 7 of the Rules of Court, which states that a pleading may only be considered “verified” if the person who filed it had signed an affidavit showing that he or she “has read the pleading and that the allegations therein are true and correct of his personal knowledge and based on authentic records.”

“In this case, however, the requirement of verification is not a mere procedural rule, but a constitutional requirement. In other words, failure to meet the requirement renders the impeachment unconstitutional,” he said.

‘Partisan orgy’

Corona said that while the 1987 Constitution sanctioned the impeachment process as a way to remove members of constitutional bodies such as Supreme Court justices, it had become “a partisan orgy, devoid of any mature deliberation and of lawful purpose whatsoever.”

He warned that his impeachment, which he described as “a rushed, partisan and insidious attempt to unseat a sitting Chief Justice,” may be considered an “unveiled threat against the other justices of the Supreme Court.”

“What is at stake then is the independence of the Supreme Court and the judiciary as a whole. Because [my] impeachment is an assault on the independence of the judiciary, it is nothing less than an attack on the Constitution itself,” he said, adding:

“This intemperate demonstration of political might is a fatal assault on the independent exercise of judicial power. Falsely branded as an attempt at checks and balances—and even accountability—we are witnessing a callous corruption of our democracy in this staged impeachment.”

Corona said that with the flurry of accusations leveled at him and the high court, this was the first time that the Constitution had been “threatened in such cavalier fashion.”

He called on the Senate to defend the judiciary and the country “from the abyss of unchecked executive power.”

“In these proceedings, the responsibility of protecting the judiciary belongs to the Senate. Only through a fair and judicious exercise of its judgment can the Senate restore productive coexistence within the [three branches of the government],” Corona said.

“[U]nless this august Senate heeds his pleas for justice and reason and lends its protective intercession against a determined executive, Chief Justice Corona could well be the last defender of judicial independence. After him, there may be nothing left to protect,” he said.

At least 6 months

Asked to comment, the President’s spokesperson, Edwin Lacierda, said the Chief Justice’s reply to the impeachment complaint meant that “the preliminaries in the impeachment trial have started in earnest” and that “the Filipino people eagerly await [his] trial for accountability.”

The impeachment trial may last for at least six months because the 11 House prosecutors expect Corona’s strong defense, said Iloilo Representative Niel Tupas Jr, the lead prosecutor.

Tupas told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the prosecuting panel was readying its lineup of witnesses and intensifying its preparations to secure a conviction for Corona, who is accused of betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and culpable violations of the Constitution.

He said the panel would only need to prove Corona guilty of any of the eight articles of impeachment.

Tupas chairs the House justice committee that initiated Corona’s impeachment.
