Aquino, Roxas lead in absentee voting in US

Liberal Party candidates for the presidential and vice-presidential positions are leading in the manual counting at the polling precincts located at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco.

ABS-CBN America News Bureau Chief Ging Reyes reported that senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II are way ahead of their rivals.

Despite this, supporters of Sen. Mar Roxas and Aquino are very shocked and very disappointed at the current state of the vice-presidential race in the Philippines.

The Commission on Elections' (Comelec) latest count shows Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay leading the vice-presidential race with Roxas coming in second only.

Some of them, especially those in New York led by businesswoman Loida Nicolas Lewis have offered prayers at the St. Patrick's Cathedral to continue their hopes for Roxas's victory.

Noy-Mar supporters did not sleep at all as they monitored the television coverage of the first automated polls in the Philippines and served as watchers or observers of the canvassing of votes at the San Francisco Consulate.

Consular officers began opening and counting more than 2,000 ballots in San Francisco at 4 a.m. to coincide with the closing of the polling precincts in the Philippines.

Out of almost 7,000 registered Filipino voters only 2,000 voters or 29% took part in the elections.

Consul General Marciano Paynor Jr. said there were some ballot envelopes that were not received or not claimed by the intended recipients.
