3 of 4 Pinoys want Corona found guilty according to SWS survey

Almost three out of four Filipinos want to see the Senate hand down a guilty verdict against Chief Justice Renato Corona, results of a recent survey by the Social Weather Stations showed Thursday.

The survey results, first published on Business World, show 73 percent of respondents preferring a guilty verdict for Corona even as the impeachment trial has yet to be concluded.

But the survey also said that 67 percent of respondents would accept any verdict against the Chief Justice.

A similar percentage said it is important for Corona to testify at the trial.

Only 25 percent believe Corona is not guilty.

Most of those who say he is guilty are in Metro Manila (81%) and the Visayas (65%), and belong to classes ABC and E.

The survey was conducted form March 10 to 13.

It showed 51 percent of Filipinos saying they were satisfied with the impeachment process and 53 percent saying they were satisfied with the performance of the House of Representatives.

However, 51 percent also said they were unsure about trusting the Senate though 66 percent said they were satisfied with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

As for Corona resigning, 49 percent of the respondents said he should wait to be acquitted before doing so while 19 percent said he should quit only if found guilty.

The survey involved 1,200 adult respondents and has a margin of error of +/-3% for national percentages and +/-6% for area percentages.
