5.2 Magnitude Earthquake shakes Masbate

At least 10 people, eight of them minors, were hurt when a 5.2-magnitude earthquake shook the island province of Masbate Tuesday morning, police said.

The quake, which struck at 7:06 a.m. followed two weaker temblors - a 3.5-magnitude quake in Ilagan, Isabela at 5:35 a.m. and a 3.7-magnitude quake in Bolinao, Pangasinan at 2:50 a.m.

The epicenter of the Masbate earthquake was three kilometers off the provincial capital of Masbate City, where it was felt at Intensity 6.

It was also felt at Intensity 4 in Irosin, Cabid-an and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon, and at Intensity 2 in Legazpi City, Albay.

Five aftershocks were recorded since 8:30 a.m. Some buildings sustained damages such as broken glass and windows. Some establishments were temporarily closed down for assessment.

An estimated P815,000 worth of infrastructure were damaged in the quake, consisting of residential and commercial establishments.

Police also reported that a portion of Masbate City temporarily lost power. and classes were suspended.
