Call to postpone May 10 polls hit

A call to postpone the automated polls this Monday is being made by people who don’t want to step down from power, a watchdog said Wednesday.

In a press conference held in Quezon City, Loretta Ann Rosales, convenor of the Compact for Peaceful and Democratic Elections (Compact), said that the postponement of the elections, as sought by lawyer Romulo Macalintal, was questionable and would only give way to fraud.

"Ayaw nating magamit ito ng mga taong ayaw pang umalis sa pwesto [We don't want this to be used by people who don't want to step down from power]," said Rosales.

Instead of postponing the election, a parallel counting should be done, said Rosales.

Macalintal made the call after the Commission on Elections recalled the flash cards for the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines following reports of breakdowns in the final testing in various parts of the country.
